National Mint - Seismic Assessment & Retrofitting

Project Information:

This project involved the Structural and Seismic Assessment and Retrofitting of the 5 structurally independent buildings of the Greek National Mint (Bank of Greece).

The total area of the buildings amounts to 6,000 sq.m. and their load-bearing elements are made of Reinforced Concrete and include slabs, beams and rectangular columns. The foundation is formed with individual footings for the internal columns and strip footings in the buildings' perimeter.

Due to the age of the building (>60 years), and the pathology of the structural elements due to the past earthquakes that took place at the wider area of Athens, there was a thorough syrvey of the buildings took place and an analytical damage record was prepared. Following the evaluation of the results, a meticulous retrofitting proposal was prepared with various intervention methods that would enhance the structural and anti-seismic capacity of the buildings.
